How to sign a message with a Trezor device

How to sign a verification message with a Trezor to prove wallet ownership without moving funds — and when to use a test transfer instead.

A Trezor can sign a verification message with keys that never leave the device, approved on the device itself. It proves ownership without moving funds.

How it works

  1. Start the signing request from Trezor Suite or a connected interface.
  2. Unlock the Trezor with your PIN.
  3. The message appears; review it on the device screen and confirm it's what you expect.
  4. Approve on the device to generate the signature, or reject if anything's off.

Notes and limitations

  • Support depends on the asset. Message signing is available for some assets (such as Bitcoin and Ethereum) and not others. If it isn't available for yours, use a test transfer.
  • The on-device approval is the security control — nothing signs without it.
  • Signing yields a signature only and never moves funds.

For current support and steps, see Trezor's official support documentation.
