How to sign a message with a Ledger device

How to sign a verification message with a Ledger device — approved physically on the device — to prove wallet ownership without moving any funds.

A Ledger can sign a verification message using keys that stay on the device — you approve the signature physically, on the Ledger's buttons. This proves ownership without moving funds.

How it works

  1. Begin the signing request in the connected app or flow (often via Ledger Live or a connected interface).
  2. Connect and unlock your Ledger and open the relevant asset app.
  3. The message to sign appears. Review it on the device screen and confirm it matches what you expect.
  4. Approve on the device to produce the signature, or reject if anything looks wrong.

Notes and limitations

  • Message-signing support depends on the asset and app. Some Ledger apps support message signing; others don't. If signing isn't available for your asset, use a test transfer instead.
  • The physical confirmation step is the security feature — nothing is signed without your button press on the device.
  • Signing produces a signature only; it never moves funds.
