How to sign a message in Coinbase Wallet
How to sign a message in Coinbase Wallet (the self-custody app) to prove wallet ownership for verification — no funds move and your keys stay private.
Coinbase Wallet (the self-custody app) can sign a verification message to prove you control an address — no funds move and your keys stay private.
How it works
- Start the signing request from the verification flow; Coinbase Wallet receives it.
- A signing prompt appears showing the message to sign.
- Read the message and confirm it's a verification message you initiated.
- Approve to produce the signature, or reject if anything looks wrong.
Safety
- Only sign requests you started from a flow you trust — malicious signature requests are a common phishing method.
- A verification message should be readable. Be wary of signing opaque data.
- Signing a message never moves funds; approving a transaction does. Confirm you're signing, not sending.
For the current signing UI, see Coinbase Wallet's official support documentation.
